Slovenia

I am not sure what it is about Slovenia, but I can't seem to ski very well there.  First there was last year where I managed meager results at best.  Then this year rolls around and my results are pretty awful, DNF and 31st.  Now I will say that the field is much much stiffer this time around.  Pretty much everybody is skiing at an incredibly high level.  However, I get to the finish and I don't even have to look at the clock to know that I have skied a very slow run.  All of the good feeling that I had on skis in Steamboat is completely gone.  I'm talking out the window, gone, auf wiedersehen, au revoir, however you want to say it.  It was uncomfortable.   Anyways thats over with, and it snowed for about 3 days straight there, amounting to probably over three feet, and I must say slovenia looks much cooler covered in snow.   The third race there, an extra to begin with, was cancelled due to the insane amount of snow, so we free-skied all the snow on the race hill, a welcome change.  Hopefully that got the boogie-man off my back for the next set of WC's here in Rauris, Austria.

Last night most of the world cup left Slovenia a day early and popped up to Flachau to catch the Women's Alpine World Cup night slalom.  Super cool to see our American compatriot Mikeala Shiffrin absolutely crush it for her third world cup victory of the season.  Hopefully I will live to see the day where telemark racers get to race in that kind of spotlight.  It was an absolutely amazing spectacle, very very cool.

It is still snowing here, tomorrow we will have a chance to freeski on the hill a little bit, should give me a good chance to get back to where I was.  I only have two more races so I had better shape up quick!!

Lots of dust on this thing?

I have all but forgot that I actually have a blog here, but my mother insisted, so here I am.  Finally in Slovenia after 48 hours of traveling.  I have had an abbreviated preseason due to school obligations and such so I do not have a ton of good work on show and my new skis, but I think that I will have enough to be pretty fast and competitive tomorrow.   Of course the snow here in slovenia is pretty much nonexistent, there is more than last year, but only because we are on a different hill.  Were we were last year is completely bare aside from a very very narrow strip of snow!  Hopefully tomorrow the course setter is skilled at navagating small dirt patches!

Now that I am back, expect more from me!
